On the fourth Wednesday of each month, The Somerville Homeless Coalition and The Somerville Food Security Coalition host a free meal in East Somerville for folks in the broader Somerville community called “Come To The Table”. This is a great opportunity for the church to tangibly serve our community, demonstrate the love of Christ, and partner alongside a non-profit that is doing work that we want to affirm.
Due to the current coronavirus situation, the format of the meal and volunteer schedule will be somewhat altered. For the foreseeable future, the meal will be offered as a grab and go option in containers that can be microwaved or frozen. Some guidelines from the CTTT staff for those interested in volunteering:
If you are showing any signs of any illness or have been exposed to others who are ill, do not volunteer; cancel and take care of yourself.
We will be practicing additional safety precautions, so we will need volunteer teams before (3-3:30pm) and after mealtime (7-7:30pm) to wipe down surfaces at Connexion Church.
Tasks will include: wiping down site before and after, set up (for take out production), meal prep assistance, taking orders, filling orders, crowd control and social distancing management.
Read this safety guide for food distribution volunteers.
Other opportunities to volunteer or donate:
Project SOUP needs extra volunteers throughout the week. Contact Ben if interested.
Donations of toiletries are needed as well. Check out the Somerville Food Security website for details.
